The City of Brusson is located along the Val d'Ayas, between the municipality of Challand-Sain-Anselme downstream and that upstream of Avas. Probably the name of Brusson comes from the Latin "Bruxeum" which means gold; the mountains around the country, in fact, are constituted mostly by auriferous quartz. Even today it can be visited the Tchamousira mine, now exhausted because of the massive use of such marks by the company The English Evan¢on Gold Mining Company Ltd. In the Middle Ages, the territory was part of the heritage of the Abbey of Saint Maurice d'Aguane (patron saint of the City) located in Valais, but was in fact used by Challand lords, who claimed to hold it in fief from the abbey since 1263 . In the twenties of the twentieth century it was built a dam and a reservoir to power the hydroelectric plant located at Isollaz.
